Para comemorar os 20 anos de aniversário da série, a Toei relança um de seus maiores sucessos numa versão remasterizada em alta definição, recebendo o nome de Dragon Ball Kai. Além da melhoria na imagem, DBK difere de seu antecessor em alguns itens: o desenho agora será transmitido em widescreen 16:9, imagem em HD, a edição seguirá de perto o mangá original, de Akira Toriyama. O número de episódios será muito menor, algo em torno de 100. A animação é a mesma de 20 anos atrás, porém com algumas melhorias visuais e sonoras. Toda a série foi redublada pelos dubladores originais. A trilha sonora foi toda regravada.
